And it’s all because I have slowly killed my hair over the past 10 years.
For some unknown reason, my parents allowed me to dye my hair from a box for the first time when I was 13. Then I was addicted. My hair has been every shade of blonde, red, and brown since then — most regrettably bleach blonde and black-brown, but we all have to learn from our mistakes somehow. Once, I dyed my hair right before going to a party and it turned duck-yellow. Needless to say, I was back at the store picking a new box within minutes. Dying my hair has always been a quick and easy way to change things up.
I’ve done this every 4-6 weeks for 10 years, and I think my hair has had enough. It’s not as thick as it used to be, and it’s getting dried out at the ends. I think it’s time for this little habit of mine to go by the wayside. I don’t even know what my natural hair color is supposed to be, being that I haven’t seen it since the 9th grade. I’m actually sort of excited to find out. However, I’m dreading the awkward in-between time — dark roots and lighter ends. Luckily, I’ve seen that it’s trendy to let your roots grow out, a la Lauren Conrad:
Unfortunately, that doesn’t happen overnight. I guess I’m in it for the long haul.
Current status: haven’t dyed my hair in 6 weeks. Game on!
